about

Hello,
This is the sixth edition - June - of my awesome and/or stupid 2009 project. For those unaware of the project: It’s a challenge in which I force myself to record and release a record within each month of the year 2009.

Trying to start out with an empty canvas is what many artists claim to do, and that's exactly what I tried to do too. Starting out with bare skeletons of beats and deep sine waves, I quickly returned to my old ways of adding foggy soundscapes and lots crackling/hissing sounds. Apparently it is not easy to be completely new and fresh. Old songs sleep in your grown bones. So, this all results in a very different wixel record while still sounding the same as ever. I know that is a cliché thing to say, but you'll see what I mean once you dig in to these tunes. Taking cues from the incredible Burial, Gas, Martyn & The Field but also from Arvo Pärts choral music this record explores the electronical side of desolate melancholia. I don't know if this would classify as dubstep, but it has twostep beats, chestshaking bass and a whole lot of reverb and crackly hiss. Whatever it is, play it loud when you're alone!

Written/Recorded by Wim Maesschalck, June 2009. Except Bacterial which was an old song. (Bending those rules again).
Thanks to Burial / Gas / Pärt for the inspiration. I'm nothing without others.
